THE DIFFERENT DANCES AND SONGS
TARANTELLA
TAMMURRIATA NERA
Some folk dances originally had magical purposes, for example they were used to ward off evil spirits, among these we have the tarantella.
This type of dance brings with it a series of values transmitted with the support of evocative costumes and precise tools. In the case of the tammurriata the dancers are dressed in shades of white, red and black, they dance to a cheerful rhythm using castanets and drums. In some shows they are seen wearing the iconic Pulcinella mask, as if to underline the link between dance and the Neapolitan tradition.
PROCIDANA
Traditional song of the island of Procida.
Procida, in singing, is associated with a beautiful daughter to make it clear how much love for the island is as true as that for a woman.
Ih quant'è bella l'aria de lu mare
Nu' me ne dice core de partire
Ce sta 'na figlia de 'nu marenaro
Tanto ch'è bella che me fa murire
'Nu juorno me nce voglio arresecare
'Ncoppa 'a la casa soia voglio saglire
Tanto la voglio astregnere e vasare
A'nzì che dice: Ammore, lassem'ire
LA N'DREZZATA
The 'Ndrezzata has very ancient origins, and dates back to the time of the Greeks, who first inhabited the island of Ischia calling it Pitecusa. The presence of swords in the dances that accompany the song recalls the exercises, both gymnastic and weapons training, of the young soldiers.
